Frequently asked questions
Do I need an API key?
Not for the big three. Claude, Codex and Gemini are auto-detected from the login your official CLI already stored, nothing to paste. The rest (OpenAI, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, ElevenLabs, Perplexity) take a key you enter once, kept in your macOS Keychain and only ever sent to that provider.
Why does macOS warn me on first launch?
The app is open-source but not yet signed with an Apple Developer ID, so macOS flags it. The Homebrew cask clears that for you automatically, no prompt. For the DMG, right-click the app and choose Open, or run the xattr command from the README. Every line of source is on GitHub.
Where do my credentials go?
Nowhere but the provider you configured. Tokens live in your macOS Keychain or your CLI's own files, never logged and never sent to us, because there is no "us": no servers, no accounts, no telemetry. The app is native Swift and local-first: it talks to your providers and nothing else.
Does it work without a notch?
Yes. Menu-bar mode runs on any Mac. On notched MacBooks you get the Dynamic Island-style pill; everywhere else, a clean menu-bar popover listing every provider at once.
Is it really free?
